Let's talk about children

Let's Talk About Children is a parenting support and prevention approach to mental health difficulties in children, which is centered on a supportive conversation between a specialist and the family. Its goal is to provide support to families to prevent everyday obstacles from turning into serious mental health problems.
Let's Talk About Children helps parents and children talk about important issues that affect their lives and find the best solutions and support.
How does Let's Talk About Children take place?
The focus of the conversation is on the child's well-being and development, considering their daily life at home, at school and with friends. The following topics are discussed during the conversation:

The child's daily life and development

  • Family relationships and home environment
  • School and learning-related issues
  • Social relationships and friendships

In the conversation, we use structured questions to help parents open up difficult topics in a caring and supportive way. The purpose of the conversation is to identify strengths and resources to be maintained and vulnerabilities to be found in everyday life to support solutions.

In cooperation with the conversation leader and parents, an action plan is developed over 1-3 conversations, which supports dealing with the identified challenges and creates opportunities to use existing strengths.
If, after preparing the action plan, it becomes clear that the parents are unable to carry out the planned activities for some reason and need additional support to support the child's favorable development, it is possible to plan a meeting with the family support network together with the parents.
